The Must-See Places (2x4h)

First time in Barcelona and you don’t want to miss anything. To split the tour in two days is the best; if it is not possible, let’s do it in a row stopping for lunch in a typical tapas restaurant.
Let’s make two blocks (4 hours each)
OLD TOWN: a walk to taste 2000 years of history. Let’s discover the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, Food Market, Cathedral, Roman Temple, etc. A little break is always essential to taste a “Suïs” a delicious hot chocolate with cream and churros in a historic place.
NEW TOWN: includes the fancy Passeig de Gràcia with the most impressive bourgeoise houses such as Casa Batlló and la Pedrera; and of course, Gaudi’s masterpieces: Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.

If you choose the chauffeured vehicle per 4 hours option, then add to the listed places a panoramic tour where you will admire the views of Barcelona from the Montjuïc Hill, you will see the Olympic facilities and we will pass by the Arch of Triumph gateway of the Art Nouveau Architecture in Barcelona. If time permits let’s see the seafront.

Gaudí Tour (4h)

I presented a diploma today, to a madman or to a genius. Time will tell” said the Architecture Chair at the University of Barcelona about Antoní Gaudi. Let’s answer this question visiting some of his constructions:

– Passeig the Gràcia became the avenue where the wealthy Catalan families settled in the late nineteenth century. An emerged social class, that promoted the beginning of the economic development of Catalonia (now, the richest area of Spain). Casa Batlló and La Pedrera are some of its buildings.

– The Park Güell, a luxury residential site, was the reality of a utopia for his friend and patron, Eusebi Güell.

– The church of La Sagrada Família is the masterpiece of Gaudí, still unfinished and landmark of Barcelona.

Tapas & Flamenco (3,5+1h)

Do you know the expression? ‘good things come in small packages’. Well, try Spanish finger food and a show! The best way to end your day!

There’s no better way to discover Spain than eating, and the way to enjoy it is certainly with a local, who shows you the places we go. So, don’t let anyone to pull the wool over your eyes and try with a local the popular TAPAS (cold or hot Spanish appetizers including the iconic jamon ibérico) and Pintxos (a little sandwich that is served on a stick).

The icing on the cake for this evening: A flamenco show, a dance traditionally from the south of Spain but due to historical reasons became very popular in Catalonia, the birthplace of the legendary flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya (she even danced for Roosvelt). You will meet Mimo, a relative of her, who will tell you the fascinating history of the family and will make you understand why flamenco is not just a dance but a way of life.

23.0 DALÍ MUSEUM & GIRONA (9h)

1024 1024 Barcelona365

Dalí museum & Girona (9h)

“Je suis le surrealism” (“I am the surrealism”) – Dalí said.

Let me tell you that this is the most unusual museum I have ever seen. Forget the concept of a museum as an exhibition of pictures. Dali wanted to surprise who visits his theater-museum and I can tell you that a lot of people confessed to me: “it’s the first museum that has surprised me”
Being inside it is like being inside his mind. He liked things with double effects: making people see one thing that hides another fact. My aim is to show you this hidden reality. It is impossible to be indifferent after visiting this museum of Figueres.

We will have lunch at Girona, where history and legend come together.
In Girona we will visit the old Jewish synagogue with the recent discovered Mikveh, inheritance from the large Jewish Community that settled here; the Girona Cathedral, with the biggest Gothic nave in the world; and the Arab Baths to see how people lived in the Middle Ages. We will also walk along the Rambla of Girona and the Archeological Garden.

These footpaths were unified after the Spanish War to control the coast and to stop smuggling. The paths go along beaches and cliffs in part of the water. Following them permits us to enjoy the views of the Costa Brava and to step on the small bays that we will discover on our way (the path has been adapted and it is easy to do – 30 minutes).
Following it we will arrive to Calella de Palafrugell, one of the nicest old fisherman village of the Catalane Coast. Famous for the Habanera Festival celebrated here every year.

Our next step is to go up by car to reach the Sant Sebastià Lighthouse (on a cliff 555 feet over the see level). The sanctuary and the watchtower allow magnificent views over the coast.

After lunch, we will visit Begur, to see the houses of the Indianos (wealthy returned emigrants) and we will learn their story. On the top of Begur is the Castle to make out the Illes Medes.

Cadaqués & Dalí & Monastery (10h)

Cadaqués!!! This fishing village is considered the nicest village of the Costa Brava.
Dalí spent the summers of his youth at the house of his parents at Cadaqués. Years later he and Gala decided to buy the house of a fisherman at Portlligat, a sector of Cadaqués. Little by little the house was enlarged until it became the house of their lives.
We will visit the Dalí and Gala house to know about their lives and the famous parties that they organised in it.
Besides we will visit the village of Cadaqués where we will eat in a restaurant.
After our meal and if we have enough time (it depends on the meal) we will visit the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes (or Creus Cabthe further east cab of Spain, where we will admire the Costa Brava shape from).
